A Dark Aseel Pair

Aseel chickens are perhaps the oldest purebred chickens in existence with written references from 1200 B.C. indicating they had already been around for a while.  They were developed in India by select breeding of the wild Jungle Fowl over thousands of years .  They were primarily kept and bred for their tenacious  fighting ability and were also used for meat and eggs.  The name Aseel means of very long pedigree.  Most of the oriental game fowl  and numerous commonly kept meat and egg producers were developed off of the Aseel.  The Aseel comes in various colors of plumage, including Black, Dark, White, Duckwing, Red Spangled, Pyle, and more.  They have yellow or white skin and small head appendages with a pea shaped comb.  The hens lay tinted eggs, and are good sitters who are very protective of their nest. They are plump and firm bodied with short, hard feathers.  They have broad, prominent shoulders, wide hips and narrow stern with a full, broad, heavily fleshed breast; and thick muscular thighs.  The adult cock should weigh in at about 6 lbs. and the hen about 5 lbs.  Aseels are primarily kept and bred in the U.S. for hobby and exhibition.
