Aylesbury Ducks

Wisconsin

The Aylesbury is a large white duck also known as the English White.  They were developed in England in the late 1700's and imported to America in the early 1800's.  They were considered the preferred market duck for their large size, fast growth, white skin, light bones, prolific egg production and mild flavored flesh.  They were replaced as the preferred market duck by the white pekin and their numbers dropped drastically.  In 2000 only 8 breeders with a total of less than 300 birds of this breed were found in the ALBC livestock census.  Thanks to conservation breeders they are on their way to safe numbers but are still listed on the ALBC list as critical.  We hope to get a breeding group of these ducks started and producing so we can promote them to other Wisconsin and U.P. Michigan breeders and eventually market eggs and hatchlings nation wide.
